Saddle roof beam with curved lower chord – optimization using Galapagos
To optimize a saddle roof beam, a Python script was developed in Grasshopper to carry out the required design verifications in accordance with Eurocode 5.
Using a combined fitness function, the beam is optimized with respect to its volume and the utilization of the governing verification criterion by means of Galapagos.
The utilization ratio converges towards a value of 0.99, while the volume is continuously minimized.
